Methane – CH4

This page methane  ( CH4 ) – natural gas also known as – suitable detection means – methane CH4 gas detector  – and provides information on respiratory protective equipment (self-contained breathing apparatus and supplied-air respirator).

Methane properties (CH4)

Natural gas – or methane – ( CH4 ) is naturally produced from the decomposition of organic matter in anoxic regions. The anthropogenic version is produced in large quantities in any other activity involving the exploitation and burning of fossil material and the decomposition of organic matter: waste storage areas, biogas production .

Dangers of methane gas

Methane ( CH4 ) colorless , odorless And is heavier than air . Because of these properties, this gas cannot be detected without appropriate equipment and can accumulate in suspended ceilings and other high areas. This gas is first of all is extremely flammable (R12) and explosive, explosive limits are between 5% and 15% by volume.

Methane – CH4 gas – is not a toxic gas, but can become toxic when it reaches high concentration levels in poorly ventilated areas. can replace oxygen . It is also responsible for the greenhouse effect as it absorbs earth infrared rays that increase climate warming. Methane is one of the six major gases covered by the Kyoto protocol.
