Propane – C3H8

This page propane  ( C3H8 ) or dimethylmethane , suitable detection tools – propane gas detector  – and provides information on appropriate respiratory protective equipment (self-contained breathing apparatus and supplied-air respirator).

Propane properties (C3H8)

Propane ( C4H8 ) or dimethylmethane, It is an alkane used mainly as a source of combustion energy in internal combustion engines or boilers. It is mainly released by natural gas purification or separation of liquefied petroleum gases. Propane is used industrially as a reactive agent for the synthesis of ethylene, benzene, toluene or xylene.

Health effects of propane

While pure, propane ( C3H8 ) colorless And odorless is a gas. To easily detect any gas leaks ethanethiol (an odorant) is added. Propane is harmful if inhaled and causes oxygen depletion (risk of suffocation). It can exist as a gas at ambient temperature but can liquefy under a pressure of around 10 bar. Its combustion is clean and produces water and carbonic gas.
